The North Hills are close to home for us. Our office is in Sewickley, just west of the North Hills, and we have represented injured people and families from Allegheny County since 1997.
For people in Ross, Shaler, McCandless, Hampton, Franklin Park, Pine, Richland and the neighboring townships, we handle medical malpractice, serious personal injury and wrongful death cases. Because the North Hills are in Allegheny County, we also represent homeowners and businesses here in property tax assessment appeals.
A lawsuit over an injury in the North Hills is usually filed in Pittsburgh, in:
Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County
Fifth Judicial District of Pennsylvania
Civil Division, City-County Building
414 Grant Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15219
Pennsylvania’s venue rules decide which county a lawsuit belongs in. In general, a case can be filed in the county where the injury happened (the place where the “cause of action arose”). It may also be filed where an individual defendant can be served, or where a business defendant has its main office or regularly does business. Medical malpractice cases follow the same general venue rules as other cases; the special malpractice venue rule was rescinded effective January 1, 2023. Choosing the right court is one of the first decisions we make with you.
North Hills traffic is concentrated on a few busy corridors: McKnight Road, Route 19 (Perry Highway), Route 8 and the interstates, I-279 and I-79. These are commercial roads with frequent entrances, turning traffic and merges, and they see the full range of rear-end, intersection, truck and pedestrian crashes.
After a crash: get medical care, call the police, photograph the vehicles and scene, and get the names of witnesses. Businesses along these corridors often have video that is recorded over quickly, so it is worth acting early. Read more about car accidents, truck accidents and pedestrian accidents.
Hospitals in the North Hills include UPMC Passavant–McCandless, at 9100 Babcock Boulevard, and AHN Wexford Hospital, off Route 19 (Perry Highway). Many patients are also treated or transferred to the large hospitals in Pittsburgh.
Naming a hospital here is for orientation only. It does not suggest that any hospital or provider did anything wrong. Most care is good care; a malpractice case exists only when care falls below accepted standards and causes harm.
Our malpractice work often involves delayed or missed diagnoses, surgical errors, emergency room mistakes and birth injuries.
Our office is at 434 Beaver Street in Sewickley. From the North Hills, I-79 runs south toward the Ohio River near Sewickley. You do not have to make the trip to get started: call, text or send us a message.

In Pennsylvania, most personal injury, medical malpractice and wrongful death claims must be filed within two years (42 Pa.C.S. § 5524). If a government agency or public employee may be responsible, written notice is generally required within six months (42 Pa.C.S. § 5522). Exceptions can shorten or extend these deadlines, so call us early rather than late.
Usually in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County, Civil Division, at the City-County Building, 414 Grant Street in Pittsburgh. Venue rules can allow another county in some cases, for example where a defendant is based or regularly does business.
